Two days ago the chairman of the bpv, the Bayerischer Philologenverband (Association of College Teachers in Bavaria) and two of his colleagues came to see me in my office to discuss Basic Global English. We had a very fruitful debate and the bpv was highly interested in reflecting on BGE for an improved transitory period from elementary school to secondary schools. One of the plusses of BGE the bpv was the high communicative competence of the learners and that the BGE material respected the heterogeneity of learner groups. The next meeting will be in October/November.

There is a good chance that Basic Global English is not only an “ideally global”, but also “really global”. People from Egypt, Brazil, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe e-mailed that they are interested in integrating BGE at primary schools in their country. The important point will be to convince curricular authorities; this seems at least the case for Egypt.

The echo after my BGE lecture at the Akademie Schönbühl was so big that we will start a BGE course with an adult learner group at the Akademie Schönbühl in mid-May. I plan to lead the first sessions of the course, but I hope that we will also find a future teacher who will first observe the lessons to see what the important aspects of BGE are and then take over gradually. Originally, I had plan to give a special training course for future BGE teachers, but this way people can develop as BGE teachers in praxi.
There are also two big German companies that have conteacted me and that want BGE courses for their employees.

At present, we’re also cooperating with a company that produces language courses to be stored on mobile phones. You can read, you can listen to audio files, you can record yourself and compare your recording with the model audio file. I’ve developed four sample chapters, the company is now getting the demo version ready.

Last week I met with Karl Ettinger from the Wirtschaftsjunioren Ingolstadt. He is going to support the BGE project for adult learner groups and for self-study. This will be a very good opportunity to get contact with different potential users and with people who deal with adult teaching.

Rosa Wagner has been organizing English for children at kindergarten for many years and written books for such groups. She has now contacted me and we’ll both check if there is any way of reasonable cooperation.

After the press reports on BGE, many people have contacted us, especially asking for self-teaching material. We are eagerly working on that.
Also, companies want to cooperate with us and have asked us whether BGE can also be particularly designed for certain professional groups. There is no real need for special subconcepts. The idea of the “individual” vocabulary aside from the “common” vocabulary allows a lexical specialization from the very beginning. In addition, it is easily conceivable to create courses such as “GE-A” (Global English for Academia), “GE-B” (Global English for Business), “GE-C” (Global English for Casual Communication). SO we have also begun to work on GE-B.
